"Remember not, Lord, our offences" is a full verse anthem written for a five part ensemble. It is full of dischords and dramatic harmony. Both the beginning and the end of the work are set to a homophonic texture. The text also adds organization to the work; "But spare us, Good Lord" is repeated both at the center and at the end. In the first half the music climaxes on this line, as the rising chromatic lines build in tension and dischord to this moment. The final "Spare us, Good Lord" ends serenely, after a turbulent middle that features a dramatic clash on the words "precious blood." It was written in 1680, and the text is from the Litany.
